What makes a gifting hero?

Have you ever sent ten individual gifts to friends all over Australia in one month? Gone to the trouble of gathering addresses, writing gift notes, and dipping into your hard-earned funds with the sole purpose of making someone else feel good, even if just for a couple of hours?

I know someone who has, and lucky for us she's a customer of Monji Tea.

Let's call her Sally (because that's her name!). I was intrigued to understand her motives. Does she like giving gifts as much as receiving them? What drives her?

Here's a few of the insights she shared:

I am an empath, and understand that people react well when we show them we are thinking of them. Of course, reaching out and listening to people shows you care, but to send a ‘hug in a mug’ really goes that extra mile. It’s important to me that people know I am not ‘all talk no action’, and this is a way for me to show this.

Can you explain how you feel when someone receives the gift and thanks you?

I feel so happy to know I have made someone’s day. It’s not about the thank you, it’s about hearing how it made THEM feel, and how it has positively impacted on their life, even if just for a couple of hours.

Do you like to receive gifts yourself?

I love to receive gifts in the mail, though it doesn’t happen often! Receiving a surprise gift gives me such a feeling of happiness, and puts me in a good mood for the whole day.

Sally is unique, and we are VERY HAPPY that she found us. She's also a somewhat accomplished and standout individual, responsible for writing a book, running a charitable foundation, and oh did I mention her Medal of the Order of Australia?
